The Gigondas from Domaine de Boissan is an excellent winter wine which is produced from 40 year old vines on gravely terraces in the Rhone. A heady nose is followed by spiced perfumes of blackcurrant. On the palate the initial attack is powerful and strong but quickly giving way to characteristic stone fruit flavours like almonds and prunes. Aged for up to 12 months in barrels.
The Domaine de Boissan is situated in the South-west of France in the Rhone Valley, close to the Montmirail Dentelles and the Ventoux. Formed from 2 wine making families which stretch back 5 generations to the first cellar which was built at the end of the 17th Century. Today the estate is run by Christian Bonfils who produces some truly exceptional wines from the 53ha that the domaine controls.
